List of the technology that Koni Stone uses in her courses:

• General Chemistry II Lab (lower division majors course)
  • All lab experiments require students to use a spreadsheet program for graphing and for generation of data tables
  • We have students use the Excell tutorial (written by Laura Maki, adjunct assistant professor in Chemistry) to learn how to use this program. We also give the students a set of data and ask them to use Excell to complete the Boyle's Law experiment

Email was used for submission of one quiz for the biochemistry course. Students were encouraged to use email to communicate with me, and I had only limited success with that. I also set up a mailing list for the group and did not include myself so that students could use email to communicate amongst themselves. From student feedback, I learned that students were not communicating with each other via e-mail.

I sent out a survey at the end of the Spring semester asking students if they had used the www materials and email, and if so was it useful and if not, why not? Hence, more things became "mandatory".

The overwhelming response was that they did not use the www or email because it was not mandatory.
