Australian law
The Commonwealth of Australia passed the 'Tobacco Advertising Prohibition
Act' that prevents all direct (and most indirect) advertising of tobacco
and tobacco products in the printed media. In force for some time now, it
has been reasonably succesful in reducing the promotion of tobacco in the
community. As you are no doubt aware, the tobacco companies and their
vicious corporate lackeys have found many ways to circumvent this (and
other) legislation. But it has gone some way to prevent the spread of
nicotine addiction.
