  4. Select a topic, write a 4-5 page paper and  give a 15 minute presentation of your paper to the class. The topic must be approved by Dr. Stone.

Option #1.  Become a peer leader for CHEM 2090

You will learn how to lead Nursing students as they learn Chemistry and Biochemistry.  This will require you to attend short weekly preparation sessions at 1:30 on Fridays and then you will attend their class on Fridays from 3:30-4:30 to work with groups of students.

Option #2. Tutoring a CHEM 2090 student

You will sign up with Dr. Stone and a student will be assigned to you.  When you sign up, please indicate the times that you are available.  A first meeting will be scheduled for you, after that, you will make arrangements to meet with the student on a weekly basis.  If the student that you are tutoring fails to show up for a meeting, then you will be assigned another student.  You will be asked to sign a weekly slip documenting your time spent with the student.  This is a great experience for those of you who are studying for professional school entrance exams.

Option #3.  Organize a science activity for Elementary students.

You will work in a group to select and organize (in consultation with Dr. Stone) a science activity for Elementary School students.  The activity must be related to biochemistry.  Dr. Stone has many resources for you to peruse.  There are funds to cover the costs of supplies and materials.  Please check with Dr. Stone before making any purchases.  When you sign up for this activity, you need to have an activity chosen and list the members of the group.

Reports

After you have completed one of  these activities you will write a short description of your experience and answer the following questions using sentences in well organized paragraphs.  (Do not simply restate the question with terse incomplete answers.) .

1.  Why did you select this activity?
2.  What did you do?
3.  How did this activity relate to what you learned in your Chemistry class?
4.  What changes would you suggest for future participants?
