Chapter 1: Scavenger Hunt Questions.
Chapter 2: Water topics, pH
calculations, bicarbonate
problems.
You may want to revisit the Buffer
lab for CHEM 1110. Also, check out the problems
on Dr. Booker's Penn State Biochemistry page.
Chapter 3: Titration of an amino
acid.
Also, start memorizing the structures, names, three letter and one
letter codes
for the amino acids. Also, you will need to know the pKa values
for the
amino acids that have ionizable side chains. (See the
"Exercises" section for some useful links.)
Chapter 4: Collagen Diseases.
Be sure to check this area often.
Homework
- Chapter 1: 1-11, see if you can figure out the mistake in #12,
13. Many of these problems help you refresh your analytical
thinking skills. You need to you dimensional analysis for several
of them. Getting the correct answer is good, knowing how to solve
problems is the primary goal of these exercises.
- Chapter 2: 1-16
- Chapter 3: 1-5,7-13,15-18
- Chapter 4: 1-10 You will need to go to http://www.ebi.ac.uk/InterProScan/
and type in part (~30 aa) of the protein sequence for #10.What

Exercises
- More
practice problems that are based on our text can be found Dr.
Booker's Biochemistry page.
- The one letter
codes for the amino acids are in a table on page 118 in Lehninger
Principles of Biochemistry by Nelson and Cox. Also, you can check out
the previous
quiz on the amino acids.
- Practice pI problems: amino acids
or polypeptides
- Here is some more information about Myoglobin and
Hemoglobin . There is also extra information about Hill plots and
cooperative binding.
- Practice problems that relate to enzymes ,
and here are the answers!
Sing these words to the tune from a favorite jingle for canned
food:
When it says
"Lipids, lipids, lipids
on the label, label, label,
you will like it, like it, like it,
on your table, table, table"
Now go to the list of common fatty
acids that you need to memorize. You need to know the common name,
